Just a very quick note to let you guys know we arrived safely in Rio today. Only a few hours behind schedule and no problems. Weather is fantastic and hostel seems good so far. Will write more later.
Friday was quite a day. The flight from Atlanta was a long one, or it felt that way anyway. So close to Rio now. Anyhow, we arrived a few hours later than expected but the taxi driver knew of the delay and still turned up to collect us. We spent the next hour in his taxi driving through the various fravela´s of Rio. It really was quite sad to see how some lived and little words were exchanged.
The driver tried to educate us on various aspects of the city which gave us a little insight of what lay ahead.
The motorway into town was something else. Apparently 200,000 die on the roads each year. Hardly a surprising stat when you see the guys walking up and down the middle of the road flagging cars down to sell them candy!!
